At the Stellantis Heritage Hub, Luca Napolitano, Lancia Brand CEO and Roberto Giolito, Head of Stellantis Heritage, presented the Certificate of Authenticity to a car that has made history in world of automotive and especially in motorsport: the 1986 Lancia Delta 4WD, owned by Massimo “Miki” Biasion, one of the most successful rally drivers of all time.
The Lancia Delta, in its various iterations, dominated the world of motorsport from the late ’80s to the early ’90s, winning six world Constructors’ titles, four drivers’ titles and more than 40 individual victories, confirming its position as the most successful rally cars of all time. Also thanks to the Delta, with 15 World Rally Championships, three World Endurance Constructors’ Championships, one 1000 Miglia, two Targa Florio, and one Carrera Panamericana victories, Lancia is still the most successful brand of all time in rally.
Miki Biasion is a major figure in Lancia’s motorsport history, thanks to his consecutive victories in the 1988 and 1989 World Championships with the Delta under the Martini Racing team.
The certification obtained verifies the authenticity of the vehicle and results from a thorough technical and historical examination by the manufacturer. This process involves close collaboration between the Heritage and Brand technicians to definitively establish the vehicle’s identity. Owners of cars that successfully pass this examination receive detailed documentation, including the “Certificate of Authenticity,” the “Lancia Classiche” certification plaque, and a booklet that encompasses the vehicle’s history, intervention criteria, and photos of the evaluated components.
The Lancia Delta is one of the most iconic cars in the brand’s history, including from a design perspective. Its fundamental elements have entered the collective unconscious and have guided the design of Lancia’s future cars: its brutal, efficient primary shapes and radical geometries, all of which form part of the brand’s design history.
As part of its 10-year strategic plan, Lancia will launch three new models, one every other year, starting in 2024 with the New Ypsilon. From 2026, Lancia will only be launching 100% electric models and, from the arrival of the Delta in 2028, it will only sell 100% electric cars. The strategic plan will pay great attention to sustainability, as demonstrated by the use of innovative materials: 50% of the touchable surfaces will be eco-sustainable.
